Field seminars

Two field seminars took part during the Forum.

The first seminar (see brochure ) examined the devasting land degradation and soil erosion in the area surrounding the well known Volcano Hekla. In this area, one of Europe’s largest land restoration project is in its initial phase. The implementation of the project builds on an extensive research on different restoration methods in Iceland, and is organized using an adaptive management scheme. The seminar ended with a reception and a dinner at the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) headquarters in Gunnarsholt.

The second field seminar (see brochure) was jointly organized by the Reykjavik Energy Company (RE) and the SCS. The seminar looked at land reclamation projects funded by the company, and at the RE geothermal power utilization in the Hellisheidi region. The seminar ended with a reception and a dinner at the Hellisheidi power plant, hosted by the Reykjavik Energy.
